The Jordan Space Research Initiative (JSRI) began in 2020 as the Jordan Moon Village team under the Moon Village Association’s Participation of Emerging Space Countries (PESC) program. Through this project, the team developed a national roadmap for Jordan’s participation in space exploration, building on priorities identified in Jordan’s preliminary roadmap for the UN Space2030 Agenda, created by JSRI’s founder and presented at the International Astronautical Congress that same year.
From the beginning, JSRI has aimed to bridge space exploration with sustainability and community engagement. Our roadmap outlines seven research areas that align with Jordan’s national priorities while contributing to global space exploration. JSRI continues to build on that foundation through analog missions and research in Wadi Rum, carried out in partnership with local communities to advance science, inspire youth, and ensure that space exploration benefits people and the planet.
Taking a look back at where it all began and how far we’ve come... From our first video introducing JSRI to the successful completion of PETRA-1, Jordan’s first analog space mission, we’ve turned ideas into action and dreams into milestones:
Today, JSRI stands as the Jordanian pioneer of space research and at the forefront of space analog research in the Arab region. Since its founding, JSRI has achieved several historic milestones that have positioned Jordan as an emerging contributor to global space exploration.
Our work integrates science, sustainability, and community, demonstrating that space exploration can inspire and empower people while supporting local development. Through partnerships with local communities and with the continued dedication of our team, JSRI is shaping a new model of space research one grounded in inclusivity, innovation, and integrity.
From Jordan to space, we continue to build bridges toward a more just and sustainable future for all.
